throwing out the cat

I'm gonna try to take off my cat (its clogged) tomorrow and either replace it with a straight pipe, or hollow out the cat and put a pipe through it. Is it really worth the hassle to hollow it out and put it back on with the pipe going through just to avoid fines? I don't think I've ever heard anyone actually get fined for not having a cat, atleast not here in Miami.
If it is worth the effort, what is the best way to hollow it out?

Breaking the inside with a screwdriver and a hammer is what I've been told, but is it really that easy?

What are emission like where you live?? Sounds like they're not strict, if that's the case I would just put a straight pipe in its place. To hollow it out everyone just says what you said.

There are no emissions testing here in Miami, atleast not right now. There used to be about 3 years ago though. I just don't want to get stuck with a $2500 fine for removing the cat. By the way, what should i do with the air pipe that would otherwise go to the cat? I am gonna go see if I can just take the entire pipe out of the car. I could always just cut it off and leave it there disconnected but that would just be a hackjob.

when they did mine, they just welded that air pipe to the pipe that took place of the cat.

Some states have visual inspections only. If that is the case there, then you would fail. You may want check on that before putting in a straight pipe.

We don't even have visual inspection here. The only problem I can think of is getting pulled over for something and having the cop check to see if there is a cat. Why would he do that? Some cops are just a$$es, and try to find as many things as they can to give out tickets to people they don't like.
