Come see what 16 years does to an exhaust system...
I've known for a while that my left exhaust pipe looked a little looser than normal... it didn't bother me, though. A few days ago I noticed that the pipe had almost come off completely due to rusting of my entire exhaust system. All I had to do was wiggle the pipe and the sucker fell right off... turns out my muffler was rusted out too, as the inner pieces just fell out.

Afterwards, I decided that I might as well take off the rest of the system, conveniently tearing and ripping the rusted pipe beyond repair -- now I had an excuse for a new exhaust system
. I'm happy to say that I purchased my new Hooker Cat-Back exhaust system and installed it a few days ago.

Now, let this be a lesson to everyone who still has a stock exhaust system. Using the rust to your advantage, brutally rip the exhaust from your car and tell your parents/spouse/significant other, "Hmm, I can't put the old one back on since its all torn up, and it's illegal to drive around with straight pipes... looks like I'll need to buy a new exhaust system!"
Seriously, though, the new system rocks -- the car feels faster, and my 0-60 times are a bit better (7.1 seconds on an auto with a good bit of wheelspin). Haven't taken it to the track yet.

Maybe it's because you have a Pennsylvania car... my stock exhaust took 3 cuts with a sawzall to get off. But it's a California car.
I used a rattling cat to justify my headers/cats/cat-back/cutout system to the little lady. She likes the rumble at idle... she especially likes the vibration at idle when the cutout's open.
