I have a '89 T/A with dual cats, and it's time to replace the muffler. I could go with the OEM muffler or I could get something else which might give me more power -- so I need advice.

Here's one important thing: I really like the sound of the factory setup and would like the replacement muffler to be about the same -- I don't want it to be any quieter and I don't want it to be really noisy (I'm not a 17 year-old Pueto Rican.) The original sound was perfect.

I assume a OEM replacement would give me that, but I'm sure there are other brands that would give me more power. Magnaflow maybe? Advice please.

Also, since I never bought a muffler in my life before, any advice on where to go, or what to look for in a shop -- to see if they know what they're doing. And can the shop put some nice chrome or black tips on too? How much should that cost?

Oh, I'm in South Florida -- in case anyone has any local advice.
Thanks.

Sounds like Dynomax might be the way for you to go. Though I like the Hooker Aero-Chamber muffler, sound clip is in the signature, it's not that loud at idle or when cruising, but when accelerating or @ WOT it's loud.

I just removed my 89 dual cat muffler and intermediate pipe. I too liked the sound of OE.

my muffler was - is perfect. The intermediate pipe was rusted through and thur.

So I guess the point is my muffler with tail pipes is up for sale. you'll have to somehow remove the intermediate pipe from the muffler. I imagine a torch will do it.
