Did you guys know if you run a 96 vortec pickup driver side exhaust manifold you can retain the egr with a chevy bowtie conversion vortec to TBI manifold, the only other piece you need is the crossover pipe. Better mpg's and cooler running at cruise are some pluses to this. EGR does not effect your emissions though.

where we live we dont have dyno testing, so when we rev an engine up at 2500 rpm with no load the egr does not open during the test, it does effect emissions under load as far as nox. The valve is designed to put exhaust gas in the chamber which deadens the air charge lowering nox. Unless you have dyno emission testing there may not be a need for the valve as far as testing.

As a matter of fact, we do have the dyno emissions test here, and one poor guy out here is trying to figure out how to work around that with a 350HO swap and stumbled on this very issue (his bigger issue is he wants a shop to do the engine swap).

And, for what it's worth, California has the tech connect a vacuum pump to the EGR valve while at idle, to test the functionality of the valve. If it's working, the engine should stumble or die when the vacuum is applied.

So, be a little more specific in your statements, especially when they involve exceptions.

 

It isnt all that hard to run an egr setup, as I understand it some models of chevy pickups came without it. so I wonder if there is a way to get a gm hood emissions sticker and just not run one? So for the illegal state of mind.
