open catback
How illegal is it to drive around without a catback? About a week ago, the two bolts holding my intermediate pipe to my cat fell off so now my car is loud as hell. My exhaust just end right after the cat now, and if i give it a hefty amount of gas it really smells bad. Could i get in a lot of trouble. I know i've heard something about cops giving anyone with open exhaust like a seven day warning. Any help is appreciated.

Typical state laws require the exhaust to exit beyond the passenger compartment in some direction. It's that silly carbon monoxide concern (you know, that odorless, tasteless, toxic stuff).
Most states also have some laws concerning noise levels. Enforcement varies from locale to locale, but most revolves around how insistent you are about making more noise than "normal" driving will produce.
