Yea they sound pretty much like the 40s except I think they are slightly louder than the 40s.

My first post here!!
i have the 80 series muffler on my camaro(im pretty sure). it sounds realy good. i have hedman headers and a single 3" pipe to the muffler then two 2 1/2" pipes out the back with 3" chrome tips. im not sure about the sound compared to the 40 series. its not that loud. oh yea i dont have a cat either.
I think they have a little less "whooshiness" to them if that makes any sense at all
and have a more hollow sound at idle. They do sound good with the right setup though. I still swear up and down that a 40 series is louder though.

I have the 80 series on my 84, and maybe it's because it's a HO which have higher lift cams than most 3rd gens, I'm not sure, but mine is louder than other 3rd gens with the same setup. If I could do it over again though, I would go with the 40 series, I think the straight thru design probably flows better than the crossflow. I'm happy with Flowmaster products.
