What is a Catback exhaust system?

I am researching on upgrading my exhaust system. I have just ordered SLP headers with air pipes for full emissions. I keep reading about catback exhaust systems. Does the CAT refer to the catalytic converter only or does the CATBACK exhause consist of the catalytic converter, pipes and muffler?

So when I receive my SLP headers, what would be the best catback system for my 87 GTA 5.7 TransAm? I'm going to be using the cross over "Y" pipe that comes with the headers and keeping with a single exhaust pipe like the stock system.

Advise and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

a catback exhaust is when u buy a system that will bolt up to your existing cat, producing more flow, and more noise most likely, some people may be able to explain it better, i dont have a cat cause i dont have emissions where i live, any hp is legal where i live lol fumes dont matter

A cat-back is just that, everything from the cat, back ( meaning, intermediate pipe, muffler and tail pipes.. Most of the time it refers to an aftermarket setup, but even a stock system has a cat-back really.
