No tailpipes, just muffler

My car was rearended a few weeks ago and besides all the major body damage and having the tailpipes ripped off its still drivable. My question is since i have no tailpipes connected to the muffler besides having a problem with exhaust gases entering the car would there be a problem with it getting to hot under there and maybe causing the gas tank to explode. I am concerned because i have a four hour drive this friday. I also have no cat.

Thanks for any help

Since i'm getting sick of dealin with tailpipes i think i may just get turn downs and put them on. For some reason i go through phases of what tailpipes i want or the "look" i want, then i get bored and i think " what the helll was i thinking" currently i have 2 3" pipes coming out the back but after i get my cat. back on i'm just going to put on turn downs!
