Bringin' the heat

Hey all, I'm in the process of replacing my cracked y-pipe. I am also doing the clutch so while the tranny, bellhousing, and clutch & flywheel are out I have plenty of room to get at the manifold studs (which are snapped off). I have been soaking the studs from the top and plan on twisting them out (I have a good two inches to grab onto). I also have to disconnect the pipe from the cat. I figure a little bit of heat would help loosen things up at both these spots. My question is, what is the best way to deliver the heat to these two areas so I can get on with the resto? I'd prefer to not blow up my house, or me for that matter.

The only idea I'm coming up with is a torch. Oxy-Acetylene if you have access to one, or even a propane torch can work if you're patient. I'd have a dry powder fire extinguisher on hand just in case. Be careful and Good Luck.
