Gutting my cats and emissions???

I live in Indiana where emission testing occurs often. If I gut my cats am I looking for trouble when it comes to emissions testing?

Removing or modifying the cats on a street driven car is illegal. Whether they will find out is another thing.

My 86 IROC passed the older revving in neutral to 2500rpm or whatever test w/ a gutted cat. But the newer dyno emissions test was then implemented before my next test. It failed on the dyno test w/ the gutted cat. Two years time between the tests, so it could have been another variable, but the car passed the test w/ the addition of a new Catco cat w/ no other changes to the car.

BTW, both of my cars passed the dyno test w/ the addition of the same 3" catco hi-flow cat. $99 bux from Summit. The cat is the only emission's equipment on my 87 too btw, still passed w/ ease w/ that cat. FWIW I could notice no performance hit when adding the cat to either car.
