Heated O2 for Hooker Long Tubes

Guys,

I just purchased 1-3/4" Hooker Super Comp long tube headers to replace my SLP 1-5/8" shorty headers (FINALLY!). I need a heated O2; more specifically, I need a 3-wire heated O2. What make/year car uses one of these. I need an exact year and model/make.

Also - for anyone who has wired a heated O2 up - WHERE did you splice in the 12V switched wire? Some people have used the fuel pump relay. What have you used?

Heh heh ... this should give me at least 30hp above and beyone what the crappy SLP 1-5/8" headers and crappy 2-1/4" pipes give. These pipes just cannot breathe at the upper RPMs.

Gunning for NA 11's with the MiniRam II and Hooker LT Headers.

hey traxion...what kinda exhaust you putting behind those? I've got the same headers and I'm about 99% sure I'm getting the Mufflex offroad y-pipe made specially for thirdgen's with Super Comps. The 4" catback that mates to that, though, costs $500 so I'm probably going to just buy a length of 4" tubing and just route it to the rear of the car unless I can sneak a muffler in there somewhere

Jim - Excellent. That's exactly what I needed.

Crazeinc - I'm taking my car -directly- to mufflex. I live about 3hrs from them and it will be well worth the drive. I am going to have them construct 2 different Y pipes for me....

A 2-1/2" off-road Y pipe
and
A 2-1/2" catted Y pipe

I will then have them mate this system up to their 3-1/2" catback.

I've given A LOT of though to this setup. The first questions that come to mind are:

Why am I using 2-1/2" pipes after the headers? Simply put, 3" pipes won't give me any improvement. Will 3" pipes hurt my performance? No. But, 2-1/2" pipes will give me better ground clearance.

Why am I using the 3-1/2" catback instead of the 4" catback? Simply put, the 4" setup won't give me any improvement. The 4" system won't hurt my performance but it will hurt the spacing in the tunnel. I'm running the SSPE torque arm and will also be running a 3-1/2" driveshaft from Denny's. All of this is a lot easier than if I were using the 4".

Another question is how do I know that 3" pipes to a 4" catback won't give me better times? I've talked to several LT1 guys (I have the MiniRam) with similar head/cam combos that haven't seen ANY difference after installing the 4" catback as compared to their performance 3" catback. So, 3-1/2" should suffice. I also know one guy that did a track comparison of the 2-1/2" pipes as compared to the 3" pipes an he saw 0 gain.

Who knows - I might change my mind. But, right now that is where I stand.

Hey Tim, I just installed two Autometer heated 02 sensors on my car today. Part # ATM-2244 from Summit, $89 each but each sensor comes with a weatherpack connector and an insulated wiring harness, so it comes out really clean when you are done.

As far as the wiring goes...and this is so sad...my alarm has a yellow wire labeled "switched 12v ignition" - I just used that. I have no idea where it comes from. I've got a huge binder full of wiring diagrams for my car, but do I look at it? Nooooooo.....
