Welding over jet-hot?
Welding over jet-hot?
Is it alright to weld over jet-hot? I'm ready to have my cat back put on and need to know how to go about welding the two piece slp y-pipe and then the y-pipe to the cat adapter.
Should i get the cat welded in also, and if so, are there any probems with changing it when the time comes. Basically i'm asking what should NOT be welded on the exhaust system.
thanks

You should not weld over Jet-Hot. Wherever you need to make a weld you should sand the Jet-Hot off in that area. It should only be about 1/4" to 1/2" on each piece that need be sanded.
Also, I would not reccomend welding the cat in place. Because then if you ever do need to replace it later on you have to cut the old one off and weld the new one in. On my setup I put collector flanges on both sides of the cat, and on the y-pipe and intermediate pipe. That way I am also able to fabricate up a piece of straight pipe with flanges on it and just bolt it in and out for going to the track, but still run a cat the rest of the time.
