Ive looked and looked and looked...

all through the posts, but can't find anyone talking about a 305 TBI exhaust and headers. I want to buy a FULL system. Headers, and dual exhaust. I have an 88 SC and I am in california so they must be street legal. I'm looking for the best horsepower gain I can get from a street legal set.

I heard it makes a big difference if you have al ot of mods in the system you get. I currently have none, but am:

dual snorkel setup (or open air element?)
Sportsman II heads
58mm throttle body
1.6 rockers (suggestions)
JET pulleys
JET stage II chip
MSD Ignition 6AL
Low Thermostat (installed tomorrow)
Holley Fuel Pump moving up to 46 PSI

Any suggestions on the engine as well would be apprciated, but I want to get the exhaust ASAP as I am strait piping it, IE no muffler or exhaust pipe :-)

Thanks guys,

JAmes

Any header available for any 3rd gen V-8 will fit your car. As long as they have a CARB sticker, it is legal in California. All the major mfg's have smog legal headers. Same goes for the catback exhaust. Any system made for any 3rd gen will fit your car. It's really a matter of finance and taste in sound variances and tip designs.

Well honestly cost is no concern for the exhaust, as I consider it to be a needed upgrade/maintenance IE I get to write some of it off :-)

I have never done anything with the exhaust, so your suggestions towards manufacturer would be greatly appreciated, and what all would I need to buy from front to back, any links? I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks again,

James

Car: 90 Camaro RS
Engine: 305 TBI
Transmission: T56
headers: SLP, Hooker, Hedman, Edelbrock TES, etc.

cat-back: flowmaster, hooker aerochamber, dynomax, borla, etc,

definetely go with open element not dual snorkel.
many others can help you with the engine build up, for I personally am a strong beleiver that OUR engine..the 305 TBI which came rated stock with 170 whopping horsepower is a hunk of ****ing junk not worth its weight in pennies. so i would recommend a swap to a L98(350) or bigger size engine as i am doing.
i dont have very much faith in my car huh?
well all i am saying is I personally wouldnt want to put a couple grand into an engine that can maybe produce 250 hp and low 14s.

Thanks for the post,

I have been thinking hooker headers, but are dual cat backs the best way to go?

‘definitely go with open element not dual snorkel.’

Hmm I have been hearing a lot of different ways to go on this, I kind of have been thinking of fashioning my own ram air with a ram scoop hood than taking the scoop off of the original induction so that it truly would be a ram air induction. What do you think?

Well, 250 hp is really easy on a 305 TBI. Replace the stock TBI unit with a 58mm (Suburban TBI --- I think) with a TBI spacer, new heads, new exhaust… You could easily get well past that. The new heads alone could do that, not to mention the bigger TBI. I have an 88 SC convertible auto, only 1869 made, so I will never throw away any of the original parts, and would like to keep it as stock as possible. I wont be doing any races, but I want to be able to peg the 145 mph speedo (I took out of an 86 IROC) sometime lol I just have never really messed with the exhaust before. I have taken it off to get to the fuel pump to change it out, but that is about the extent with the ‘exhale’ area of my engine. Thanks again for the info it is really going to help me, as I will be buying in the next two weeks.

Thanks again,

James
