Borla

Do you think the Borla Exhaust has the best exhaust tone? Is it worth all the $$$$?

F U C K borla!!!!

no it's not worth the money! I just got quoted $125-$150 to "fix" the 14888 borla system on my '84 Trans Am. Borla's assembly line sucks. ask any muffler shop before you buy. it may sound good, never rust,3" mandrel, and have three "pre-muffler outlet" plates, but if it's all crooked and retarded looking on your car, what good is it?? for $500 or whatever it costed me,I'd expect it to at least fit like it's supposed to without custom fabrication. if I can find my reciept this weekend I will drive up to Oxnard,CA(borla industries) and return this heap of S H I T.
anything aluminized should last long enough.I should have just bought a hooker system.

PASS THE WORD ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY: JUST SAY NO TO OVERPRICED BORLA JUNK!!

by the way....good luck with your '84. I got my '84 TA when I was 17 and spent all my money on speeding tickets, tires, cases of oil(lots of drag/road racing)before I became sensible and saved money for real mods. feel free to E-mail me if you have any questions.I've done many repairs/restoration and much research. wflynn9491@cs.com

Hey Junkyardog, thanx, i am 18 and just got it in August, so i'm teaching myself (practically) how to fix this thing. I think i caught it on it's way out though the engine was rebuilt 2 years ago (so i'm told) and the transmission is still sweet (but i did learn stick on it). The bad news is i haven't quite learned how to be an effective street racer, so my friends beat me constantly (with their automatics ). I also stopped driving it for a while to save up some cash to put into it since it is a money hole. Christmas break is a good time for high school kids to earn the green stuff.

I had lots of fun with mine, most of my friends beat me simply because they had faster cars. the cool thing about the '84 is they come stock with 3.73 gears and the 5.0. H.O. engine is rated at 190hp,which isn't great, but its a good start.I might not have had the fastest TA in town, but at least I still drive mine.it sounds like you picked up a decent car,I know you won't listen to me,but you really don't need to race it all the time.I always planned on racing my 305 into the ground and transplanting it with a better engine.theres more to life than just cars, however,so it's good to be realistic about how much abuse you wan't to put your car through,so you don't get stuck with a ragbox and no money to fix it . just some advice I give everyone. your friends have no advantage with an automatic....trust me,I have an automatic.all you have to do is work those gears, don't be afraid to shift right at the red line(5500 rpms on my car).try a conservative launch(dump it once you feel traction),feed it gas as it needs it(don't hold your foot on the floor like some of my friends do),keep your shifts short, as long as the clutch is down the second you shift, you can't break anything. riding the clutch between shifts is a mistake one of my mustang buddies always did when he was learning stick.if your a pro with the shifter already and your still losing races...you probably would need a good tune up,I did all the vaccume hoses,o2 sensor, got rid of that "flame arrestor" thing in the air cleaner,I also ran it with a hollowed cat for a while(great top end)oh yea...NEVER let any of your friends "test drive" it!!!

Hi,

Just my two cents, but if you want the maximum power and life from your exhaust, install an SLP. It is guaranteed for life (I had to have the muffler replaced, and they sent me a new one without any question)and sounds about as good as you can imagine.
Just my opinion. Good luck!

slp is a good option, more $$$ though , but for someone looking into borla it probably shouldn't hurt the wallet much.

In regards to Borla Exhaust, I have had mine for 8 years without any problems. First in my 86Z28 then installed it into my 92RS, 2 years ago. I enjoy it immensely and with the interchangeable plates, I can tune the sound. As for 84TransAm, from reading your post, I would not advise you on buy it at this time since being low on cash. To those with bad experience with Borla I can relate to your disappointment, not in regards to Borla. Talking about other parts I've ordered in the past that did not live to my expectation. Remember that parts are mast produced and defects can occur. One good advice I can give is to save your receipt. If the parts do not fit, broken,...etc. return it.

Junkyarddog--
Well you're right about never letting friends "test" drive it, i let my best friend test it the 3rd time i had it out. It was raining outside and we were in front of his house, he floored it then let go of the clutch, sat there for like 20 seconds, them booom we were off. Around the block and never again. I bought the pro-flo air cleaner to do away with the stock cleaner (the ram-air is busted). Only tested the top end speed once, and that was scary. I had to drive it into town because i overheated it like 6 miles from where i live (this was in the country) and the road to back home is realtively flat and a perfectly straight line. Even though the speedo is like 10 mph under, it is off more the faster i go, and i had the speedo to 70, so i'm guessing like 110 or so (through light traffic!!!!!) it was fun, but it killed my idler arm which was going anyway.
