Can I put a 5.7 Exhaust on my 305?

Will this work?
I would like to upgrade the exhaust on my 305TBI to the 5.7. Mainly, I only need the pipe from the converter to the muffler, but just curious if the bigger pipe will have any effect.
Thanks, and sorry for the stupid ?

Justin

The only effect it will have is that it will make your car faster and louder, although not by that much. It should just bolt right up without any additional modifacations.

Yep you definitely can do it. My dad put a y-pipe and cat-back exhaust from a stock IROC on his 92 RS TBI, and it gained 8 HP and 20 TQ at the rear wheels.

Are you only talking about the cat back? If you are, it won't bolt up. Even if it did, you wouldn't get much out of it because of the small y-pipe and cat. If you were planning to swap the entire exhaust including the manifolds(tbi manifolds won't work), then you would see a significant gain. My brother did exactly that on his 305TBI in combination with an open element air filter and gain about 1 second in the quarter.

No it wont bolt up. You will need to modify the y-pipe to bolt to the exhaust manifolds, like my dad and I did. (I forgot to mention that) Dont bother taking the exhaust manifolds off unless youre putting on headers. Its not worth swapping them.

I agree with not swapping manifolds. I did it only because I got them for free, but after a day and a half of fighting with it, I now wish I had done headers even though it would have costed more. Still was a significant gain though.

89 Transam GTA, a few bolt ons
