Before I spend $300 on headers, will I have too make any additional modifications to my 305 before I can use them? I've been told that headers create too much heat and can melt ignition wires and other components. Has anyone else with an LG-4 had trouble with this? I'm looking at the Edelbrock 1 3/8 inch headers and want to know if anything has to be moved or modified to keep it from frying.

Getting them coated by JetHot or any other reputable company will help tremendously, it's not a necessity. You'll have to replace your spark plug wires with ones that have 90-degree boots on them to keep from frying your wires on the primary tubes. Just keep the plug wires and anything else at least an inch away from the tubes and you'll be OK.
Oh, they are 1 5/8" headers, well, actually "dual-diameter" headers with 1 1/2" and 1 5/8" primaries.

I actually found that my coated headers are cooler than the original cast iron manifolds. My underhood temperature never is hot and the primaries are actually "touchable" within 15 minutes and cool in 30 minutes. After 15 minutes the primaries are cooler than my runners on my TPI. Coating REALLY does keep the heat where it is suppose to be, inside the primaries.
