Edelbrock Headers and 2 1/4" cat
Edelbrock Headers and 2 1/4" cat
I want to get edelbrock headers(don't try to convince me to get SLPs, don't have enough money) for my 91 Z28 305 TPI automatic. It has a 2 1/4" in and out cat. My catback has been modified to fit my cat. Should I get a 3" cat? What kind and how much? My car has to remain emissions legal. Would a 3" cat make a big difference? Should I coat my headers, don't want to spend to much money, no jet hot coating. I need a cheap alternative. Do I really need to coat them I live in Oakland in the summer and Santa Barbara during the school year, so my car doesn't see any bad weather. What should I do? Thanks in advance for any help.

Theres been alot of discussion about the quality of headers....I suggest you browse through them.
You can also coat the headers yourself (again, look through past threads on this topic)
Three reasons why you should coat headers:
1-extends life
2-channels heat away from engine
3-looks VERY nice

NEXT UP: SLP 1 3/4" Headers/Y-pipe, Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch kit

If you still have an old cat on there I highly suggest an aftermarket 3inch. Just another addition that will maximize the use of headers. With my TES headers, I first sandblasted them, then gave them a couple coats of 1200 degree black paint (VHT). So far they are holding up well.
If you want to spend some serious $$ for the cat, the Random Technology one is the best, if not, Catgo cats are sold in Summit for around $60 I think.

I think I will get the SLP's(guys at CamaroZ28.com changed my mind). If I don't get the installtion kit what do I need to order or buy elsewhere? What about instructions, will someone e-mail them to me? Since my cat is 2 1/4" should I just buy a cat that will fit the 3 inch pipe and have someone weld it together for me, or should I buy the cat adapter for $30? Does anyone know when I would get the headers? Sorry for all the questions. Thank you to all who responded.
