Assuming the Berlinetta has a V8, it is the LG4. The exhaust for that engine is 2" from the time the two banks come together back to the muffler. 2" is adequate for one bank of this engine, but GM decided to run both banks through it. Basically, it stinks, performance-wise.
The IROC could be either an LO3, LB9, or L98. If LB9 or L98 (TPI system), it has the best exhaust system (at least in single-cat form) the factory ever put on a 3rd gen. The exhaust manifolds are bigger, the y-pipe down-pipes are bigger, the entire system from y-pipe back to the rear bumper is bigger. If LO3, it's the electronic fuel injection equivilent of the LG4 - to repeat, "basically, it stinks, performance-wise."
All of these systems routed the same way, hung the same way, etc. If you're looking to put an '89 system on the '86, that's fine if it's a TPI car - otherwise, don't bother. If you're thinking of putting the '86 system on the '89, don't even consider it. If you're looking at an aftermarket system, regardless of what year the receipient car is, go with the '86-'90 (some say to '91) TPI single-cat parts.

I'm still a little confused about exactly what you have and what you want to put it on.
There were differences between the way things bolted together, especially at the cat, but if you can get around that, they are the same size (if you're talking about an LO3).
I'd have a hard time justifying a new y-pipe on an old LO3 or LG4 system. That's when it starts making sense to get headers that come with a y-pipe. Might even be cheaper than buying or having a y-pipe fabricated.
