Is my Y-pipe Choking my power?

In my 82 is a 350 bored "060 with a Compucam 272/284 454/480, Crane Gold Roller Rockers, Edelbrock RPM manifold, Holley 650 duel feed, AFR 190 Heads, Hooker shortie headers, a TCI Saturday Night Special converter, 350 trans, 3.42 rear, custom y-pipe into a 3" Dynomax exhaust. The car sounds like it chokes up when I get on it. It doesn't even break traction, timing and fuel is right on. The Y-pipe is a duel 2 1/4 into one 2 1/2, where the cat should be,about twelve inches long then dumps into the exhaust. With this set-up should I get a more open y-pipe, poss 3", to flow the exhaust better? I should be pushing close to 380-400hp and the car feels as slow as my cavalier which is a whopping 2.0......or should I buy SLP 1 5/8 headers and y-pipe?

Your running AFR's through a 2 1/2" y-pipe. Good Greif! Open that thing up. A 350 like that should really have dual 2 1/2" pipes dumping into a single 3.5" y-pipe. The best your gonna find though is a single 3 but do anything and that engine will wake up.

Thanks so mch for the advice, I'll definately get this done. Where can I get this done? Does Midas or Meineke do good work with this? And do they stock 3 1/2" pipe to do this? Thanks again.

Just get a header and y-pipe combo from Jegs or Summit. I prefer SLP's 1 3/4 inch headers but they are really expensive. Edelbrock is not a good brand, believe me I have them. Hedman or Hooker makes a header and y-pipe setup. If you are rich go to www.mufflex.com and check that **** out. Whatever you do don't go to a muffler shop. They will crimp bend your exhaust and you want mandrel bent pipe so the diameter is not reduced. Good luck!
