Loudnest?????

I want some loud, powerful sounding exaust...If i took my cat off and put a single 80 series flowmaster muffler on, will this be loud???? And if i take the cat off will it affect the O2 sensor or the computer???

I have an 86 TA, 305-4barrel....stock manifolds.

It will help some, but that stock exhaust isn't goin to help the sound much, but it will bit a bit louder.

So you're saying a single 80 series flowmaster muffler won't be loud??

I dunno, even though the exhaust is stock, a 80 series with a gutted cat should be kinda loud......

It won't turn heads, but it will sound a lot better.

my car with some unknown 2.5 inch mandrel bent catback and 80 series sounds pretty good. Not "Loud" but turns heads and roars pretty good when you're on it. However, my buddy's TBI Iroc with the same setup (2.5 mandrel catback, 80 series, stock cat/manifolds) doesn't sound anything like mine. His is actually really quiet. So I guess a lot depends on the cam/cat setup. Also make sure you have at least a 2.5 inch intermediate pipe. I'm hoping to go to a 3 inch sometime soon, which should only make it better.

Buy the 3 inch cat back from either flowmaster or hooker, and run a straigt pipe instead of cat if u want it realy loud. Just the muffler isnt enough, The other 3 inch piping realy helps the sound and performance.

headers made a bigger sound difference (and power difference) than just a muffler i think.

Like I said I had that setup and it wasn't very loud...headers made a big difference tho.

Yeah, you guys are right, It may sound a bit louder and better, but later on the 3 inch pipe and header will kick it up alot more... also the angle and cut of you tips will affect how loud it sounds from inside the vehicle.

I have the 80 series and no cat and it is pretty frickin loud. But I have heard other 3rd Gens with the same setup and they aren't as loud. Must have something to do with the L69 setup.

Its probably because of your 3" exhaust.

If you get turn down tips and dump the exhaust closer to the muffler itself, the interior noise will increase.
Since you friend does not have any tail pipes, the exhaust resonates between the car and the ground as oppose to just flowing directly behind the car.

It goes at the end of an exhaust cut out. It's an electronic vavle that allows you to "tune" your cutout.....or some people say " a tuneable exhaust leak" LOL....it's electronic.....by the flip of a switch from inside your car.....you can tune the exhaust cut out to how loud you want it...here is the link if you wanna take a look at it.... http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/pictures.htm

with turndowns turned sideways on my dual setup and 2 chamber flows I get A LOT of interior noise.

I think having no tail pipes at all sounds really trashy and sounds alot like a dump truck. My setup sounds pretty nice on a 9.6:1 350. I like it alot.

Unless you have to have a muffler now to pass state inspection or something i wouldnt get a 2.5 inch flow...id just wait until you could afford a 3'' hooker catback or something.

I used to have turn downs before the rear axle but it got really annoying and the fumes from the exhaust ran into the car.And I used to have 50 series Flowmasters (3 chambered) Those sounded great with the X-pipe. it sounded like the 4bbl was open crusing at 30mph! but that was also with turn downs before the axle.I kinda wish i would have kept the 50 series somtimes now!
