Smog Help
I recently failed smog due to the SES light, and the retarded timing, but besides that the car passed both ASM and all the other visual tests easily. Well I got the cars SES light to turn off and got my timing advanced so I thought I would just go and get it smogged, but when I got the car smogged it passed everything, minus the CO (%) test that measured 1.17 with the max. alowable being 0.71 at 15 MPH and it passed at 25 MPH, so I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure WTF is wrong now, I know its something to do with the CO2 but thats it, if anyone can give me advice please do.. thanks!!
I think you mean the "engine" light right? well if it's that light remove the dash face and pop out the bulb, that what I did when my emmiosions equipment some how went AWOL, so the stupid light came on, it looks tacky so I pulled it out. If you need a light to tell you something is wrong w/ you car you shouldn't be driving anyway right!
Your right it is there for a reason, 90 oercent of what that ting monitors is emissions crap. That's fine for the normal stock car, but if your moding the car the light WILL come on. That's about all the light tells you. But if the light could tell you your loosing compresion or something like that, than unless you didnt know jack about cars you should feel it, or find next time you check your car over. Never the less there are some thing that were put on to make the camaro more friendly, like you cat and the light. Case and point- remove the light IT IS THERE FOR A REASON....A STUPID REASON

Remove the light bulb, and you will fail. They check to see if it comes on when the ignition is turned on before the engine is started, and goes out after the engine starts. If it doesn't come on or doesn't go out, you fail.
Modifying the engine won't automatically cause the SES light to come on. Mine doesn't. It's a matter of choosing your modifications so that they are compatible with the system checks, that's all.
With the notice of failing the test, you should have been given a list of possible causes for the various exceedances. If not, you can ask for it. I don't have an example in front of me, but cat is one possibility for high CO.

I never took the light out, i fixed the problem that was making it turn on, it was some bad MAF relays, im not stupid enough to take out the light, and if my light is out then obviously the people at the smog place will know right away. Anyway im not sure how this heated discusion started with my question about how to fix the problem with the CO being to high to pass smog.
