should i get rid of the cat?
Hey guys i am going to purchase a flowmaster muffler and i was wondering if i should take the cat out while im working on it. What are the advantages to taking the cat out? My car is an 84 z28 305

No, some on this board have said that their Flowmasters sound better with 1. U would be best getting a high flow converter, since they're ok to have, and no emissions BS, or just stay with that 1.

Hey man, go ahead and take it off if u still have the stock exaust on there. Me and some others have done it that I know of and so far I liked it. Sounded good and decent increase in power for um...how much? Oh yeah, its free.

E-mail Mgyver (sp?) from nethirdgen.org. He did what u want to do zane and he highly recommends it. But I wouldn't recommend it if u have to pass emmisions like the guy above me said. I burned my cat off when I did the headers so its hard to tell what the cat did. All I know is I like what I did and my car sounds awesome with that setup.

I put MAC headers, y-pipe, and 3 inch flowmaster catback system. To my surprise it did not sound much better. I removed the cat and man did that two chamber flomaster wake up and sound mean. I agree about the emmissions testing with the cat but it is slid on one end and the other is three bolts. It is not to hard to replace the cat back on for testing.

Haven't you ever heard a Mustang with flows and cats and then a 'stang w/ flows and no cats? They sound unbelievebly MEAN! I hate stangs but they sound awesome like this. My car is the same way... I have a gutted cat and a flow, and my buddy has the same engine in his Formula and has a stock cat and flow... his sounds like SH#! Mine has a much more deeper sound. Hell, half the time you can hear is engine and K&N over his exhaust. He actually wants me to remove his cat and gut it or else give him mine when I swap to headers and another gutted cat. If you don't have to have a "sniffer" emissions test, then do it! If you only have a visual emissions inspection... DO IT! Just my thoghts though
