are Catcos than much better than Rando tech?

I am looking at buying some new cats for my 91 formula 350. I was going to buy Random technnology but they cost $162 each ( I need two) from Thunderracing, just for the cats. ON Summit they have a Catco system that includes the two cats, the two intermediate pipes from the headers and the little y pipe that connects the two cats to the catback. All this is stainless steel and goes for abouyt $284. If I get the random ones I guess I have to use the old pipes or buy new which is going to be way more expensive. I have heard the randoms outlfow the catcos, but by that much?

Another thing, all these cats are 2 1/4" in and 2 1/2" out. I am getting 1 3/4" headers and just put a 3" catback system on. wont these smaller pipe sizes around the cats limit my flow? also what size normally are the y pipes?

thanks

Going by the subject title, I don't think Catco is considered better, from my reading Random Tech cats are the best, but I can't see paying the price for even one.

my question exactly

That is what Im saying. The price difference is very large. $324 for two cats only, or $280 something for two cats, and all the pipiing betweent the exaust and the catback in stainless steel!. OK, the Randoms are better, but are they worth double the price?

I don't think you can beat this deal. Who has had experience with this setup? anyone? If I put this on my car and SLP headers, and I already have a Borla Catback, I will hava a complete stainless steel system all way from the motor to the tailpipe. Ought to last forever.

Here is a picture from the summit site for those no wanting to view the warranty

If it fits your application, I would go with the Catco System. Why pay a for a name thats a High priced sound system. The Catco's
flow just as good. My opinion.

I have catco's on my ride and very happy with the quality. I never installed a random cat so I cant really submit a comparison, but i say go with the catco's; unless you are running some major engine mods, I dont think you would even notice a difference between the two setups, you will just notice your wallet is a little lighter with the randoms.

That's sweeet. Before this thread the only sources I knew of for dual cat setups charged $800-1200... Now there's a source for all new dual cat configs. Now I just gotta save all my nickles and dimes and order a couple sets...

Larry~ Talk to me. I too have a 91 Firebird Formula..i have the catco cat setup CTO-4153 and i have a borla cat-back setup on my car.....Do I like the catco/borla setup together?...for the most part yes. The only part I DONT like about the setup is the catco system bolts up to the borla cat back. If you look at the "tail" of where the two cats "y" you'll see what I call a donut. I tried and tried to NOT modify the catco setup but that ended in failure. I cut that donut off...one of the guys at catco TOLD me to do it....he said that "donut" was for a factory cat-back set up. Once I cut the "donut" off I had to expand the catco "tail" A LOT to make the one pipe fit into the other. After all I got the the pipes to go into each other I bolted everything up....yet another small problem...cutting the "donut" made the exhaust system "a little short"...it made my cat back setup look "short." It fit but I had to move the pipes around a little...if you installed the borla cat back setup yourself YOU KNOW what im talking about . I have stock exhaust manifolds on my car by the way..no headers...(yet). If you go with catco...expect minor problems...pm or IM me for more help....after ALL I WENT THROUGH ILL GLADLY HELP ANYONE THATS DOING A CATCO\BORLA SETUP...

Dude go with the Catco, I've never seen that before. I've had two Random Tech cats sitting in my garage for over a year now because I can't find a muffler shop talented enough to stuff them under my car(I've been to so many places its not even funny). That system is already made, and cheaper too. I may pick one of those up myself and get rid of the Randoms.
