headers on stock?
I am running a stock 305 TBI, and am thinking of getting headers. What will this get me? Will I get a little bit more power and gas mileage out of them? I'm not looking for much. I just want to know what header will do for a stock engine? I'm not planning on any other mods yet, but a higher flowing intake is probly a good idea. I was thinking of either making a ram/cold air intake.
try 10-20 hp. Im not sure how headers work with stock cat back exhaust, but you might want to replace the whole exhaust for best performance.

89 camaro 305 tbi, flomaster 3 chamber cat back, gutted cat, Edlebrock open element, and a 160 degree T-stat. 2 kicker comp 12"'s, polk for the rest. Phoenix gold xs2300 to subs, kicker impulse 404XI to 4 speakers, pioneer DEH- P7000R head unit, and finally a 12 disc changer. Full leather interior from [URL=http://www.MrMikes.com[/URL](its nice)
TES Headers in the mail, and about to order a stage 2 fastchip.

You didn't mention whether you had a cat back exhaust yet. This should always be done before you get headers. A cat-back is cheaper, easier to install, and will give your car a nice, mean exhaust note. Bolting on headers to a stock exhaust will give you a little gain in power, but no where near as much as a cat-back and header combo. Build in steps and start with the cat-back.

Well, the exhaust was just replaced a year ago right before I bought the car. So, I realy don't want to throw away a perfectly good cat back. I will probly wait until some thing goes wrong on that and then change it. As long as I get some better performace otherwise, I will probly stick with that. Thanks for the info guys. I'll try to come up with the money now.
sorry for the negative input, but i dont think you will feel that much of a difference. I had the 305 tbi before w/ cat back exhaust and added headers. barely felt a difference, but it sounded a lot better. none the less, i think it is a good investment.
The first mod that I did to my 305tbi was
full exhaust consisting of edelbrock headers along with 3in hooker cat back system, no cat. My stock 1/4 mile was 16.25 @ 88mph. After the headers and cat back, my times droped to 15.91 @ 91mph so there are gains to
be found on a stock engine.
