TRUE DUALS QUESTION----PLEASE HELP!
I have decided that the only way to go is duals. I plan to buy headers and let a muffler shop install them and then run my duals. My main question is about the headers. Which headers can I easily use with a true dual system and still have my AIR system intact? Or should I get rid of the AIR system altogether? how would I do that? Any help would be appreciated more than you'll ever know!

Well once I put the headers in myself, I would have to drive it to the muffler shop with open headers. I want full-length headers, not the crappy shorties with the y-pipe to attach to the factory exhaust. Which headers would be best for me?

I put the headers on myself after I took all that AIR crap off. I drove to the muffler shop with only the headers on. It was loud but I got there. I used Hooker shorties and the shop ran true duals off of them. There's a tech article on this site telling how to take the smog pump off. But what I did so I would'nt have to get a new belt was gutted the pump and put it back on for the sake of having the pully there.
If you want long tubes, your only choices are between Heddman and the Hooker Super Competition. Neither one has provisions to hook up to the AIR system, and they are both expensive. Approx $350 for uncoated. Neither has a y-pipe. To get rid of the AIR system, you'll just have to track down all the vacume lines that are part of the system and junk them, get headers w/o AIR provisions, and either junk the smog pump (you'll need a shorter serpentine belt) or gut the pump and have the pulley there. Getting the pump out of the way is very nice. Frees up a lot of space. If you want to stay emmisions legal, check out SLP, Hooker, Heddman, Edelbrock and decide which are best for you. Just do a search for comparisons between headers. I just got SLP 1 3/4" w/o air and will be putting them on this week. As for getting to the muffler shop, just drive there once you get your headers on. Wear earplugs if you have to. If you get stuck next to a cop at a light, just kill the engine. If you really feel uncomfortable about driving there with open headers, get a friend with a truck and a trailer or call a tow truck. Everywhere I've been towed, it's been $35 which is a lot cheaper than most tickets.

I just bought the Headman long tube headers from Jegs for $99. I don't think they are equal length though.
