Removing Air Injection Hook ups.

The Air Injection system is taken out of my 82 Trans Am (305) and Im running Straight pipes. The pump and hoses are all gone but the injection hookups (dont know what they are called) are still attached to the manifolds. And you can hear exhaust putters coming up through them. So I stuffed peices of rags in the openings to block them up (Im from Florida) .
What I want to know is should I go ahead and take them off? Will it give me power to take them off?,and if so how do I plug the holes properly. Thanks in advance.

I've heard of people cutting them off and welding up the holes. I think this would be the best way to do it. JB weld may also work..but might not like the heat.
