is it worth it? YES,
I never heard of anyone getting the Y-pipe coated though, it's not a usuall thing to do.
1) the headers will look better
2) they will perform better
3) they will last longer and not rust.

Is it worth it is up to you.

Me, after owning uncoated ones, I'm coating mine.

LIke said, they'll look better, last longer, more performance, less burnt wires, and will help protect the starter from heat.

I think Jet Hot includes coating the Y as well. check out www.jet-hot.com

It's up to each person...

I've had headers coated, painted, and one pair I just dropped in with the crappy factory paint still on 'em...

As far as underhood temps are concerned, the only real difference I found is when having to work around the headers when the car is warm. The coated headers cooled off faster..

On the Hedman's I have in the IROC, I had them bead blasted, then initially coated them with some POR-20 I already had. The finish was a bit too bright for me, so I scuffed the POR-20 and used a can of alum colored VHT, then baked each header in the grill for about 30 minutes or so before installation.

I've had them in for right at month now, and they still look VERY good. I neglected to wrap them with something when installing them, so there are a couple of small grease stains on them.

I'll get some pics this weekend, as I just finished a water pump install, and this weekend I'm installing Taylor wires and centerbolt looms, painting the plenum / runners, and valve covers.

FWIW, the plug wires on the car are stock replacements that use 2 straight boots.....the closest one to the header tubes is tight only because it's straight boot, and even it isn't touching.
