hi flow cat or no cat at all?
hi flow cat or no cat at all?
I have a stock '83 Z28 with crossfire injection and I'm trying to run mid 15's without killing gas mileage and my pocket book. I saw where everyone was recommmending Random hi flow cat's, but the ones I looked at were$300! I can do a lot of other stuff for that price. If I completely remove the catalytic converter, will it hurt performance? No more emmissions in OK., so I'm not worried about inspection. If it does hurt performance, does anyone know where to get a Random hi flow for less than $300? Any other suggestions for semi-simple modifications will be welcomed. Does anyone know how much this will increase 1/4 time? thanks
If you don't have to worry about emissions, then no cat at all is the best you can do. My friend took his off, and his 1/4 times dropped by .3 according to his g-tech.

Just get a cat-co cat, don't skip on the cat on a street/strip or daily driver car.

Yes. You must have the O2 sensor for the ECM to work properly or you'll trip the ECM limp home function and the EC light will come on. Unless you ditch the ECM entirely, the O2 sensor has to remain in place and connected...
If you dont want to spend the cash then get the catco, they are pretty cheap, but if you dont need it then dont bother,i just like the sound with a cat of some sorts on,it sounds too tinny without it unless you got some serious motor,i like a smooth rumble that sounds ballsey.
