quick question(s): hooker long tube or shorties?
quick question(s): hooker long tube or shorties?
i saw in jegs they have a few hooker headers sets for 82-92 camaros. they have 3 that im looking into:
Competition headers for $142
Super Competition for $385 (im assuming long tube style here)
Super Competition Shorty for $350
does the $142 one include a y pipe? y is it so cheap compared to the others? what are the size of the primaries for all of those above? will i get less HP between the supercomp shorties than the long tubes?
thanks!

Sorry, but we need a bit more info on your motor and setup now and maybe in the future.....HP, displacement and power adders all factor in to header selection.....

whoops, sorry.
its not with me now, but i am ordereing a:
-GM Performance Parts 350 Crate motor ("base" motor w/330 HP, vortech heads sells for $2095 through jegs)
-edelbrock performer rpm intake
-speed demon vac. secondary 650 carb
-most likely a comp cams 268H cam 454 lift and 218º duration on both sides
-hooker catback system, ill custom fit it if needed
-MSD ready to run billet distributor, blaster 2 coil, msd wires
thats pretty much it... or atleast all that i can remember as of right now.

Good combo, you've been doing your homework!!
I'd go with SLP 1-5/8" if you stay with this motor combo only, or 1-3/4" headers if you plan to hop it up. They will flow great now and if you decide to add a little NOS or other power adder later, you'll be set. If you live back east the stainless steel will endure. You can get them with AIR tubes too. They are a little more in $$$, but the quality is higher too than Hooker and Edelbrock TES.
I have TES on my '89 and Hooker long tubes on my '87. Lots of pain during the install of the Hookers. I live in AZ so stainless is not really required.
Will you be doing the install?

thanks, but i cant take the credit.
i had a lot of peole help me with stuff, and someone in the aftermarket parts review section helped me with the cam selection which i think will really wake up the motor.
all i wanted was a nice motor that can be a daily driver, and still fast. yes, ill be doing ALL the installation. to me, its just no fun if you dont do the install yourself. ill either get the hooker shorties and get them coated, or go with some SLP's. thanks for the help!
where can i get the SLP's from cheapest? i see them in Next Generation catalog for $500.

personally i would go with the hooker long tubes (again) if i had to do it all over....id just do my homework before hand instead of recreating the big headache phil is speaking of. Its true...they are a pain to install...if u dont know 100% what you are doing.
i can guide you if you like (email).
it get em coated by JetHot if i did it over again (lifetime warranty..NEW, 3 year used, i think) i thought i could coat em with 1200 degree paint, but it boiled off in 2 minutes....literally.
SLP are good, but expensive.
the hooker LTs you can get from musclemotors for 360, and a 250-275 y pipe from mufflex. and youll never have to worry about exhaust no matter how much you mod that 350
then if you coat em...thats another 250 right.
but i think its money well spent...depending on what you have planned for your car.
good luck and have fun.
