run exhaust pipe in hollow cat or not?
After i gut my cat should i put a piece of pipe (2 1/2 or 2/ 1/4?) in there or should i just leave it hollow? If i do put a pipe in there will that help lessen the sound? what to do with A.I.R.? By the way i ordered a 3" cat back from Edelbrock.

What about drilling a hole in the inserted pipe so that the A.I.R is doing something not just "looking pretty" (I've had dates with girls like that, look pretty but do nothing)
I would just run a pipe through the cat. This should help flow immensely over a gutted cat. Exhaust can't get "trapped" in the cat then, like it would in a gutted cat. Don't even bother drilling that hole unless you have some serious emission problems. Just my 2 cents worth.

CamaroX84 is right the exhaust flow will slow greatly due to the increased diameter of the cat housing and hurt performance. Put a pipe through it and it will be fine.
