Best way to get rid of the Cat

My cat on my 87 Trans Am just started to rattle. I was told it's coming apart on the inside so instead of geting a new one I want to remove it. For those of you running with out a cat how did you do it and how does it sound? I have a 80 series Flowmaster on the car now. Is it best to gut the cat or remove it and replace it with a piece of pipe? If I just put a pipe in there it do you think a shop would take the clamps off and weld it for me since I removed the converter?

do you even need it in Florida??if you don't just put a pipe. if you do need it, run a pipe through the hollow cat.

Not here. Emissions is a non-issue. I think they should weld it if you say nothing about a cat; just say "fix this leak".

Thanks, I'll just put a pipe in it's place and hope I can find someone to weld it up for me.
