1992 Firebird problems with new exhaust

In Jegs and Summit, some catbacks say they'll fit 86 (or whatever) to 91, but not 92. Why is that? Is there that much of a difference under the car that a catback wont fit?

1992 Pontiac Firebird (stock)
- 305ci V8 TBI / Automatic Trans / Every option, excluding leather
- Killer car audio system:
  • Aiwa CDC-MP3 head unit
  • Rockford Fosgate 360a2 amp
  • pair of 12" MTX Thunder 5000s in a custom box

I try not to deal with those people due to their lack of knowledge and the problems i encountered with both companies. try to find a knowledgeable exhaust shop and have them fabricate an exhaust for your bird.if they are a reputable place they will be able to get you any muffler brand or cat that you want. this is what i did with my fathers 1982 firebird and the whole deal cost me $300, just about the same as an aftermarket exhaust. the exhaust was fabricated from the headers all the way back with the exception of the flowmaster 80 sereis muffler and random technology high flow cat.it's all mandrel bent, custom y pipe, and aluminized 3"pipe and looks great. good luck.

Sometimes it's hard to find a shop that has a mandrel bender...

I just put in headers, exhaust, cat, that was specifically made for 86-91 Irocz.. I can tell you that if you want it done right, do it all at once. It can get pretty ugly under that car after 10 years of rust and crap has gone through all the bolts.. Any of those kits should work, just make sure they use a 2 bolt ball socket to the cat or else you will have to get creative with it... The flowmaster one I have has this but I had to replace the cat with a high flo 3" catco one.. but then the stock manifolds won't slip on the header.. see what I mean about getting it all done at once?

I'm gonna guess no one else has come up with an answer to this question? I am in the same situation... it's cheaper for me to just buy a good cat-back and y-pipe but everything says it fits up to a 91... i'm not afraid of getting out the welder and making it fit but if i'm spending 300 on an exhaust I want to know it will fit....
