If you and the local cops can tolerate the noise, then your car will be fine with it too. Did you notice a difference in seat-of-the-pants power?

If its just a little too loud you could always throw a glasspack on there and it'll quiet it down a little.

I'd say that it would improve air flow not having a muffler, and it would be louder too, even though I prefer having mufflers to give it a different sound.

My 86 IROC has factory exhaust back to the cat (not sure if the cat is factory or not) and from the cat back to the rear bumper is a large diameter pipe that splits and exits at the stock exhaust location. I get a lot of positive comments about how good it sounds and it runs great. Only problem is an occasional SES light (code 32) if I maintain the same speed longer than 4 or 5 minutes.

I've heard that mufflers help to equalize back pressure on our exhausts, like a crossover on a true dual exhaust. It seems to me that straight pipes would help increase power, although ive heard the opposite, but youve also got to be careful with the law...in IL, im pretty sure you legally need a muffler...cops probably won't pull you over for it, but if he wants to give you a hard time he can. I too am considering just getting rid of my muffler, but im gonna do some research on the backpressure thing

I took my muffler and I-pipe off about a month ago. Its kinda loud (still have the cat on) and it shakes the change in the ashtray like crazy. I love the sound at WOT but cruising around it sounds kinda choppy. People love it and 95% of the people walking down the road turn their heads to look at whats rumbling towards them. People swear I'm lying when I say its all stock under the hood and assume my IROC is faster than it really is.

As for power gains I noticed it pulled more in the top-end. I didn't feel any loss in low-end.
