quick question, catco: 3 inch diameter, 14 inch or 16.5 inch cat.

Buy the Catco cat for your model year and not a universal one. Try Summit they have a good selection.

how about if you are redoing entire exhaust, i was told that the 14" (50 dollars less mind you) would be fine as long as i was redoing the entire thing.

I just bought the universal one for $50 and a piece of 3" pipe and a 3" ID to 3" ID connector for $10. Saw the flange off the cat-back (if you're doing that) and saw the pipe to the right size where the cat and the cat-back connect correctly. Clamp 'em down, and drive away knowing you have less cat and you paid less for it
