Junkyard Cat??, What to Look for, HELP???

I was going to buy a high flow cat when I put my 3" Hooker aero chamber on, but I am getting gears installed and going to college. So money is tight. I want to put a cat on so I can pass emissions or at least get a waiver. I was thinking what are the chances I can find a cat at a junkyard that will fit my exhaust with Edelbrock TES headers. What size in/out do I need. Also how do I hollow out the cat so it won't hurt my air flow since most likely a junkyard will have stock ones.

I don't know about the junkyards where you are, but out here in SoCal they won't sell used cats. At least not at the PAP's.

It is against federal law to sell a cat off of a junked vehicle. Most yards won't do it.

What will fit your TES depends upon which TES you got.

Hollowing out the cat is contrary to your goal of passing emissions.

I believe that it is actually not permitted by federal law to install a used cat on your car, and also to sell them. EPA thing.

Yeah, my 3" Catco cost me about $50 bucks from summit. Maybe just spring for that.

Guess I will go with the Catco, that's what I was planning on anyways. Oh, the reason I was going to get a junkyard one and hollow it out is because, here in MD if you don't pass emissions, but spend a certain amount of money on repairs with receipts, then I could get a waiver.
