Just a wild thought I had. The cat shouldn't work then, right? Would that hurt or help performance?

Thanks,
Matt

Neither, just get rid of some clutter and allow your cat to clog easier. It will work without the air supply, just not as well.

Short answer: No

Long answer:

Bad idea. Without air being pumped into your cat, it'll clog before too long and severly hurt power, and in extreme cases it may not even run from what i've heard. You won't gain any HP by just disconnecting the hoses from it either.

Now if you gut your cat or replace it with a straightpipe (illegal in every state but most places never check) and remove your AIR stuff and smog pump, you should see a slight top end power increase but also maybe a slight loss in torque. You'll have to close up the AIR ports on the exhaust manifolds too somehow. Or just get a set of non-air headers and Ypipe, but that would be almost pointless unless you already have a cat-back exhaust system.

Basically what i'm saying is this is not a free mod.
