Muffler Opinions, what sounds best to you?
I'm working on an 88sc v6-v8 swap again and want to atleast replace the muffler and tips.
What do you think is a good flowing and sounding muffler thats an easy enough replacement to stock, and in your experience do tips really change the sound and what tips do you have?

I have a flowmaster 80 on mine. Sounded nice even before the headers and tips. Now it sounds even better. I have a set of tips that I bought at Midas,,,22" long, 3.5" wide. Looks hella good and definitely made the car sound more aggresive.

the flowmaster 40s have a dual outlet model...it just wouldnt be positioned right in the stock muffler location. it would take extra bends to get 1 pipe out of each side. my vote is for flowmaster.

I have an 80 series Flowmaster.....but.....if I had soem extra cash.....I would have a 40 installed......great loud tone.....my friend had one installed.....went to the muffler shop (we know the owner really well) and he installed it with 2 functional tips out the back. Somehow...he spliced into some of the pipe or something and had 2 functional tips. I would get pictures if I could..but..he sold his 91 Z....
if all you want is sound, go with flowmaster. if you want performance and sound go with spintech. i have the slowmaster 80series on my car, but im getting a cutout, that way whenever i want the power i wont be fighting with the flowmaster to give it to me.

Flowmaster sounds the best IMO.

Here is a picture of the tailpipes anyway. I don't have any pics of the muffler itself. It looks like the picture on the website though and fits just like the stock one does. Call your local Midas dealer and see what they have for your application.

Do you want your car loud? It will definently talk with a flowmaster and headers....thats for sure (especially since it's a 5.7). You can look in my sig at what I'm running..but....I want my car to be as loud as possible...and..I really don't think I can get it any louder..lol..anyhow....tips...you can get ALL kinds of tips...and they vary in price. They can change the tone of your exhaust a little....I just got 3 1/2 tips installed for 60 bucks. Tips are located at the ends of your tailpipes....can be welded on...or clamped on.

wow, mark is so busy with his Thirdgen Nats thing, he is missing out on the Hooker sales! HOOKER BABY! its deeper and not a lot of people have it. Hooker aero chamber's are one of the best sounding mufflers out there, and best flowing...

Hooker aerochamber!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steppin in for Mark
Definately deeper and throatier than flows. I like how flows sound from the outside but drone inside too much for my liking at cruise. I need to get a sound clip on here pronto! Maybe I'll do one from inside the car tonight...

Dynomax is the way to go for best flow to $$$ ratio.
sounds nice too, low mellow rumble.
I run a 2 1/2" ultraflo on mine, my GTA had a super turbo 3" setup and my dad runs custom Dual 2 1/2" super turbos on a 96 Roadmaster LT1, the sound is awesome.

I think it all comes down to opinions. Me:....I love to hear my exhaust on the outside and on the inside. Some people don't like to hear it on the inside, Some like it loud at WOT, some like it loud all the time. It just depends what you want. Some want to have a better flowing exhaust for performance reasons and some just want it for a nice rumble. I'm happy with my Flowmaster.....and I'd never get anything else. Wouldn't it be cool to hear a sound clip up everyones car on the boards? :lala:

I was also wondering about mufflers.......how much are spintechs? I also want a muffler that has a low rumble, but at WOT gets loud and sounds really good......does the spintech do that? if not, which muffler will?
by the way i have an lg4 305

Trust me man, you'll be more than happy with a Spintech(s). You will find that they may be $10-$20 more per muffler than flowmaster, but you get what you pay for, trust me. As for pricing check out their website. My muffler is their cross-flow one, 343SC.

This is not something you will hear everyday. I run a Flowmaster exhaust and I LOVE the sound of it. I have never thought about changing exhausts, that is until I heard a spintech exhaust. There is a kid in my town with a 2000 SS with one on and his car sounds SOOOOO nice. I would go with Spintech if I were you. They flow better and sound just as good if not better than Flowmaster.

Absolutely correct. The LS1 is not a Chevy, I mean even the L98 and LT1 sound different, and they are both SBC's. A SB is a SB LOL. If that were true all SB's, by different companies even, would sound the same.

I guess me and 82 are the only people runing Ravin mufflers.
They actually sound very good almost like my old no muffler full system with dual exit in stock location at idle but quieter down the road.

I am very pleased with my flows. The loudness in the car sometimes turns people off from buying the system. I LOVE IT, loud and aggressive inside and out.
My friends 88 350 has a only a hooker catback and a colder stat. I only have a flowmaster catback and a stat, and I trapped 2 mph faster then him in the 1/4. Does this mean flowmaster outflows hooker? Of course not, with a stock L98, a catback is not gonna vary enough to give big gains over another.

i'm not real happy with the sound of my spintech... i wouldn't say that it has a 'stand-out' tone..

I'll second that!
Hooker all the way! Quiet at idle, roars at WOT, and doesn't drone until you are deaf on the highway like the flows. i'm not real happy with the sound of my spintech... i wouldn't say that it has a 'stand-out' tone..
Which Spintech muffler/system do you have? What kind of engine do you have? Cat. Converter? Headers?
89IRO- do you have a picture of your setup? IF so, i would like to see it to determine how my exhaust would be set up.......thanks
My setup is just stock manifolds, high flow cat. converter, stock I pipe, into a 343SC cross-flow muffler, with polished aluminum tips. It is the exact same configuration as the stock muffler except it has a 3" inlet, and I just used the stock 2.5" outlets and connected them to the tips. I have pics, but I've tried already and it says the size exceeds the requirement to post on the website. Trust me though, it sounds mean at every rpm level. Can't wait to get my hookers and new I-pipe!
