Catback or Straight Pipes

I am about to massively modding my 92 Camaro RS. Exhaust is my first goal. Would it be better to buy a 3 inch cat back?? Or should I just buy a set of headers with a couple mufflers?? I live in Alabama, so there is no inspection. I have done plenty of measuring, and the exhaust should not hit the ground too much. I dont want it to run to the back of the car, just as far as needed. Anybody done this to their car?? Just wanting to know if there is a big difference other than price.

For a while I was running my car with no muffler because the intermediate pipe rusted and broke where it attaches to the muffler. I had my new hooker cat-back put on a few days ago and the difference is amazing. The car didnt run too well without the muffler. A few people I asked said that 305's need a little bit of back pressure. Im not sure of that, but the car feels faster and runs better with the cat-back system. Not sure if this helps but good luck with the build up.
peace

Just get the Hooker Aerochamber cat-back exhaust and get a Dynomax/Walker bolt-on flange test pipe to get rid of the PITA catalytic converter...add some headers and you'll REALLY feel AND hear that!

Thanks for the info guys. I had my Cat cut off a couple years ago when the tail pipe busted.
