I know what it does, but what piece is the EGR?
I posted on the TPI board, but no one answered and I found a lot of EGR posts that didn't answer my question here. What is the EGR? I know the solenoid, but what is it controlling? I couldn't find any hoses or lines going into it and I really don't know what to look for. I discovered that the tubes sticking up from the exhaust manifolds are AIR (hadn't ever bothered to trace that line up from the cats) and not EGR. Now I don't know what part the EGR is.
One other thing: the tall, metal canister on the passenger side of the engine compartment, about halfway back is the air pump, right? I don't have a shop manual and this is my first computer/emissions car to work on, so I am piecing stuff together from what I hear and read.

EGR is Exhuast Gas Recurculation. And that metal canister, you said PASSENGER SIDE, right? well, I believe that is the A/C, at least it is on mine. You should get a Chilton's or somethign though. It has really help me!
Hope that helps, good luck.

The air pump in low on the front of the block, opposite side of the power steering pump (you know which one that is, right? has the little cap on top for fluid?)
The EGR is under the plenum and looks like a small UFO mounted on a trophy pedestal.
The AIR pump pumps air to a diverter valve, which is controlled by the ECM. The valve assembly looks like Princess Leah if her head was square. There's two hoses coming out of the valve, the smaller one goes to the cat, and the larger one splits two ways and goes to the AIR injection manifolds on the exhaust manifolds on either side of the motor. All three hose routes have a small one-way valve inline on them.
The name for that tall metal canister at the back of the engine compartment is the AC accumulator.
