running just factory y-pipe and cat....?

i have the LO3 with the factory exhaust and im tired of not hearing my car run so i decided the cheapest and easiest why to fix that is take everything out starting after the cat.(pipe after cat., muffler, tips) im impressed on the sound and the throttle response so i think im just going to leave it off till i get the money to buy a good cat. back system. my question is will it hurt the performance or anything (because of not enough back press.)?i haven't been able to drive it yet.

my friend did that to his 89 TA with the LO3 and it sounded like crap and wasnt much louder for some reason.

No it won't hurt anything, and loss of backpressure is a good thing. backpressure= struggling engine= loss of performance

when i had no cat or anything but my exuast manifolds and y pipe my car sounded like a prostocker , sounded sweet.

The only thing not having backpressure on these cars will do (besides offer a performance gain) is set a code 32.

32. Fault in barometric pressure sensor circuit OR
Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR
Fault in electronic vacuum regulator valve

It has to do with the EGR and you can ignore the SES light.

When the shop was installing my catback and cat right after he took everything off my friend gave it a revv. ohh man that sounded sweet. Too bad i live in california and the stupid fuzz would be on my *** if i left it that way.
