Which Flowmaster, or Muffler?

Well, its time to change my exhaust....the intermediate pipe is rusting through and so is the 2 chamer flowmaster i've had on there for some time. One of my tailpipes already fell off. When i bought the old flowmaster i have on there now, all i knew is that it was a 2-chamber. Its loud as it is, but for reference, since there have been so many that have come out since, what flowmaster would give me the loudest and deepest sound? Or is there another brand of muffler that would be better for this both at idle and wot? I'm not looking for stainless steel....and i dont want a 300 dollar muffler either. I'm keeping the random tech cat, and probably doing dynomax headers onto the car as well. Any ideas? I'm looking for deep, bassy loudness....enough to scare your deaf grandmother and wake the dead.

I run the Flowmaster Force II system..single 3".It's the single tailpipe..but I was more into performance than the duals "look" when I bought it...I paid $228 thru Jegs. Its loud on my car with my current 355 with no cat and SLP 1 3/4 headers...and screams at WOT.

Thanks....do you know if they have a similar system that is dual outlet? I'm going to have to look through my jegs catalog. Any suggestions on JUST the muffler? In case I want to get just a muffler? Thanks.

plain and simple solution. 40 series flowmaster. that is the loudest muffler flowmaster makes. if you really want 2 side exit tailpipes, then get an 80 series. both are probably a little quieter than the one you had on it. theyve toned down the noise of their mufflers a bit, but definitely are very loud still. i have the flowmaster force II catback, and i think it is perfect for me, but it doesnt quite sound like what you want. it sounds great and is loud enough for me, but it doesnt really scare your deaf grandmother or wake the dead. it is the quieter of the 2 flowmaster catbacks. flowmaster american thunder catback would be the catback to get if you went that route.

Cool...thanks for the reply's. I appreciate the advice. Now...adding headers i'm sure will also make it a bit louder/deeper. But...what about pipe diameter? It might sound stupid, but someone told me once that if you increase the diameter, like from 2.5" to 3" on the intermediate pipe, then you also increase the sound somewhat. I just want to know if that holds any truth to it or not. Thanks.

You should notice an improvement in sound with a 3'', also performance as well.

Sounds good...literally....I will have to find a 3" intermediate pipe. The Flowmaster 40 series has a 3" inlet and two 2.5" outlets for 73 dollars in teh Jegs catalog...so i might just go with those two and put everything together...cant wait. Thanks for the help.

Just slap the cheapest flowmaster on there you can.

Then spend $35 bucks on a cut-out, put it on before your cat. That baby will roar.

keep in mind though, with the dual outlet 40 series, youll have an inlet on one side and 2 outlets on the other. so, youd end up with 2 tailpipes on the drivers side of the car unless you wanted to use excessive bends. with the 80 series, youll have an inlet and outlet on one side and outlet on the other side which enables you to have a tailpipe coming out each side. thats assuming you have the muffler mounted transversely in the stock muffler location which is the most practical way to have it. just depends which look you prefer. im not sure where youd get just the intermediate pipe, but i guess theyre out there. if youre going to get the intermediate pipe and the muffler, you ought to just get the flowmaster american thunder catback. if you found a good deal on the intermediate pipe though, thatd be a good way to go too.

They really make the 40 series with two exhaust pipes comming out on one side??? Sorry, but thats assinine and i think that looks stupid. And it would look even dumber on my car since I already have a custom cut bumper for my two tailpipes. Thats really retarted. Thaks for the heads up though. I guess I'm going to have to rely on the 3" intermediate pipe and headers to give me more sound. They show the 80 series in the Jegs catalog for 80 dollars for my car. I dont know how that compares to the 40 series in terms of sound. In the jegs catalog the american thunder only comes with a single outlet...which i dont want either. So it looks like i will have to do my own cat back system...3" intermediate and the 80 series muffler seperately. Thanks for your help.

actually american thunder catbacks all come with 2 tailpipes. so, it would be what you wanted if you bought a catback. make sure its not the force II catback that youre looking at. they are the single exit.

I double checked....i'm positive that my Jeg's catalog shows the American Thunder catback thats 3" with a single outlet. This might be an older catalog...not sure.

try 389-17233 or 389-17234 on jegs.com
those are the flowmaster american thunders for your model. only difference is one is 3 in cat hookup, and other is 2.5.
i know for a fact that both are dual outlet and everything bolts right in the stock location.
if you want...check out the pics of them at summitracing.com
theyre numbers for it are...FLO-17233 and FLO-17234

Thanks alot for those #'s. I must have an outdated catalog or something, but i havent looked online at their site yet. But with the part #'s this should be easy to find and I can just order it without a problem. I'll look at the sites. Thanks again.
