steering column in the way?
I've been reading this thread for quite a long time, and, yes, i've already done a search. But, I plan on installing headers in the very near future. I want to do them by myself. How hard is it? Do I need any other equiipment besides stands, and a mechanic's tool set? Does the steering column get in the way enough to cause a huge problem for an amateur like myself? thanks.

As you've probably read if you did a search is that the steering column does not always cause issues. One of the best things you can do to be sure that you don't have a steering column issue is to replace the motor mounts before or while your putting in headers. This will lift the motor so that this will not become an issue and will replace your worn out mounts.
I thought my steering shaft was in my way also.
But after 3 days of messing with it, I realized you have to push the flange DOWN and towards your firewall at the most severe angle you can, and then just pry and jam that baby down in there.
It's funny how the passenger side header is much more clustered, but it only took me about 45 mins to get that side in. Took 3 days for me to stuff the drivers side in. Go figure

i just did edelbrock headers on my 90 iroc and at first i couldt get the drivers side header in,. i thought my colum was coming out but i took a break and went back and wan it fit right in, just had to bend a brake line slightly....
if you are looking for suggestions on headers, i'm sure that SLP's are awesome headers but for the price you cant beat Edelbrocks, i've had hedmans in the past on my 84 camaro and they were a big B1tch to install, but the edels have easy access bolts and the gaskets are nicer too....
just remember to take your time, it isnt a race
