Length of pipe after muffler

How does the length of pipe after the muffler affect the sound? I know there is a difference in sound between a muffler that has no pipe attached and one with long tail-pipes. I have heard that mufflers that don't have tailpipes/short tailpipes will have a more bass tone to them. Is that true??
Thanks,
Brady

The length & size of your tailpipes can modify the sound. With my expirimenting, it's a noticable difference. But I wouldn't say it's worth the hassle. The wider & longer the pipes I used, the bassier & throatier it became. The skinny & long pipes I also used were higher pitched, just slightly.
