Smog Pump Removal Problems
Alright, i'm in the process of removing my smog pump (belt driven) in my 1988 GTA 5.7L. Have already removed the A/C compressor and all the lines to the smog pump. Have removed at least 4 or 5 bolts from the back of the pump but the thing won't budge. Don't really want to leave the pump there but i'm really getting stressed out trying to get it out. If anyone else has run into this problem, what did you do to get it out. Thanks
Mdformula is correct, I just went and checked an old smog pump assembly I had lying around and remove the 3 pulley bolts to remove the pulley and then you will have 2 more bolts to remove that is holding the smog pump itself on. Good luck.
What to do next?
I have an 89 RS 305 TBI and I'm taking out the smog pump. However, I don't know what to do with the hoses connected to it in the back of the pump. Can I just pull those out along with the system there(some square object) I know the two hoses in the back are for the exhaust manifolds(pass&driver) What do I do with them?

Remove the lines from the exhaust, plug the holes, remove as much as possible, leave the rest,I left the lines behind the engine, difficult to remove!
Unbolt the line at the cat, plug it with a screw and some exhaust sealer, put the line back on.
Put rubber plugs on the lines still sticking out in the engine bay.

smog pump removed(a lot of smoke now)
Hey,
Thanks for the advice on how to remove the pump. I just have one more concern...When you remove the pump, are you suppose to be letting out a lot(A LOT) of white/grayish smoke from the mufflers? At idle, white/ gray smoke comes out and a lot more when you blow the engine....Is my stock exhaust system clogged or dirty? The engine sounds good...We plugged the hoses for the exhaust manifold and the one that goes to the back of the engine... Thanks for any advice...
