o2 sensor location

I have Hedman longtube headers on my car, I did not have an o2 sensor bung put on the header before I installed them I also have a custom made Y-pipe, can I just have the o2 bung put onto the Y-pipe right behind where it connects to the header instead of putting it in the header? The reason I ask is because the Y-pipe is currently off the car and it would be easier to take it somewhere and have it welded to the Y-pipe than either dropping the header back out or trying to get it in the header with it on the car. I already have the connector to run a heated o2 sensor so I would think it would be fine. Another question, if the o2 sensor requires a special o2 extention wire, how do I go about hooking the wire from the heated o2 sensor connector to the original o2 wire? The connector just has three wires coming off of it with bare ends.

Thanks

Mines in the Y-pipe, right after the collector flange. Just don't weld it in the bottom of the pipe where condensation will lay on the sensor. 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock position is best.
