effect of muffler length on tone
I'm still planning on a 3" intermediate pipe and a dynomax bullet muffler. Now I'm trying to decide what length muffler to use. I figure that with a bullet, no matter what length I choose, it will be plenty loud, so I'm going to buy based on what the tone difference is. I'm guessing that the longer muffler will give a deeper tone by doing a better job of suppressing the higher frequencies. Can anybody verify this?

I'm not sure exactly what the bullet muffler is like, but it sounds like it's a glasspack type muffler. correct?
Anyway, as far as I know for glasspacks, the shorter the muffler the louder the sound. I'm not sure if it affects tone much at all.

i dont think length has much effect except for the loudness
i think the diameter has more of a effect on tone then length...
for example, one guy i know has dual bullets that are like a foot long...
and another guy i know has one on his truck that is VERY long ( id guess 36")
both sound nice and deep.

The casing size seems to effect loudness only. The tone depth (my observation when I made mine) depends on how much pipe is comming off the outlet. With the Z tips on, mine are extremly (almost irritatingly) deep at idle in the car or out. Just sticking roughly 3' of pipe on the end of my mufflers take most all the bass tone from the muffler (making it more similar to a mustang tone). I'm planning on junking the ones I have and making a new dual muffler to fit the stock location so I can get rid of some of the bass tone. The same was true when I made a temp oval one to fit in the cat location with my old TES system except having the loudness right under you duff was overbearing.
