well ive heard, and know from experiance, that the stock exhaust on a 83 z28 is very restrictive.

is this becuase of the sorry muffler and cat, or the size of the piping? what is the size of the piping on a stock 83 z28?

well my problem is i dont have enough money to go all out and get a whole new exhaust system, so i want to work with what i got. could i find a decent muffler that will fit my stock exhaust? will it add much hp?

im going to take my cat off and just put a pipe in place of it so i need to know what the size of the exhuast is.

hey zz, i also have an 83 z-28. do you have the exhaust setup where it has two mufflers? that is the one i have. are you just going to get a new muffler or are you going to get a catback?

mine has one pipe that runs into one muffler and then has dual outlets. i think the previous owner changed your, because im almost positive the stock exhaust on an 83 z only has one muffler. but i could be wrong.

well for now i just want to get a nice muffler, and get rid of my cat. but in the future i want to get full exhuast: headers, muffler, hopefully 3" piping.

 

some 83's had the dual muffler setup like mine. i know a couple other members have it. but the setup is very restrictive and i hope to replace mine soon with a catback. i wish mine only had one muffler that way it would be easier for another catback to bolt right in.
