deleting my cat myself

ok guys well i have a gutted cat and i wunt to just put a pipe there, I have the TBI TES headers and the y-pipe is only 21/4 and the I-pipe is 3in. I was thinking of getting a reducer for 3in to 2 1/4in and cutting the cat off at the I-pipe, putting the reducer on, getting some 2 1/4 in pipe ad running that from the I-pipe to the y-pipe and calling it a deal. What do you think?? I didn;t think it was worth the 50 or so bucks it would cost to have a shop do it up so i figured i woudl give it a go. any input??

Well, I dunno if this is what you wanna hear, but I hollowed the cat on my 86 out myself. Unbolted it at the one end and slipped it off at the other. Made my own custom 18" drill bit and drilled all that crap out. Took long enough, but when all was said and done, I bolted it back up and you would never guess just by looking at it. But holy SHiiiitt.... What a difference. Loud as hell too. And I was stock manifolds to a 2.25" pipe with a cutout. crazy loud, but I liked it

He already has a gutted cat. I made a cat delete pipe for my ol truck I drove last year. I went up to NAPA, got a reducer 2 foot of pipe and 3 clamps..It was under $20 for all of it. I used a sawzall to cut off the flanges and clamped one end of the pipe. Cut it down to size and clamped the other end. As it is right now your 3 inch I pipe isnt doing any good because you go all the way down to 2 1/4. You need 3 inch all the way.

so what do i do about the y-pipe? I don;t feel like spending another 300 bucks on headers and have these be a waste.

I got my y pipe made by a local shop...It was like $75 Or depending on what headers you got, their might be one available for it. Not saying the headers and 3 inch on there now isnt doing any good, It surely helps it breathe better. Your just not getting full potential!

on the edelbrock tes headers for tbi the y-pipe comes out 2 1/4in, on the tpi headers if i am correct it comes out 3in correct??now do you think i could have the y-pipe cut back far enough so i could get a 3in collector welded on then a peice of 3in welded to my I-pipe that goes to the y-pipe with another 3in collecter liek the 3-bolt style so i coudl still take off my y-pipe? That would probably be the best bet. How much do you think an exhaust place would charge to cut off the cat weld up some 3in pipe with a collector on it and cut back the y-pipe and weld a collector on it? I surly hope its under $80. just to get an idea my freind put headers on his 71 monte and it cost him 150 to get the duel exhaust rebent and shlt to make it bolt up. thanks

Sounds like you got a good shop around there...Atleast price wise. What size are the pipes coming down to the collector? I would get them to weld on a 3 inch collector with a bolt on flange and get them to weld up a 3 inch pipe to your i pipe...So if you ever wanted to unbolt it...You would just unbolt that flange at the collector. You can atleast call and get a quote...I seem to find the young guys at most shops understand what your goin for and get exactly what you want...They're on the same level as me
