Help

sorry if this in the wrong forum, i really dont know what to classify this as.

i have an 82 camaro Z-28 with a built up 355 motor. it runs perfectly until i get on the highway and go about 60 mph of faster. once i go faster than that, whitish/grey smoke starts coming out. i know its oil. the smoke starts out lihgt, but after a long enough time it will start coming out the vents in the car and will come out from the hood at idle. what is the probable cause here?

umm...
Black smoke=fuel.... too rich
Blue smoke=oil.... oil burnin in chamber
White smoke=coolant.... head gasket blew and your burning coolant....

Sounds like you have a headgasket problem.. .not a oil problem... good luck my friend... If the smoke does have a blue-ish tint... then it is oil... somehow its getting in your engine... check valve seals and compression... could have blow by big time...

sounds like blow-by or head gasket problem..... Might even be a piston ring problem....How new is the motor? what kind of heads? block?

the motor itself is from a 78 balzer. it is a 350 that has been bored .030" over. it has a TON of other performance goodies and has been rebuilt under 5000 miles ago. the heads are a 305 chevy with a 58cc closed combustion chamber and have been decked .010"

HAHA! you put 305 heads on a Hi-Po motor... wrong move IMO. It has to be Pre 86 305 heads, perhaps 70's 305 heads and they flow like a straw! I since the motor is new, its probably not the valve seals... but if it is still white smoke... then its your coolant and you need new head gaskets... probably the compression ration on thoes heads are higher then 10 to 1 because of a decked 58cc head... i dont know if my math is right, but i think thats like a 54cc head.. on a probably high compression engine already... easy 10 to 1. If crappy head gaskets were used, then i can see why you have white smoke.

well i didnt do any of the work, i purchased the car with all the things that it has. and i was told the car runs a 9:1 compression ratio.
