Heat shield rattling

hey

I was wondering if any thing bad would happen if i removed the heat shield located over my muffler. It rattles louder than the sound of my exhaust (which is very loud). I know it is there to keep the gas tank from getting too hot, but is it necessary, or more of a "just in case" type precaution?

thanks,
nick

thanks for the reply KagA... yeah its rubbing alot. The guy who owned it before me put the exhaust on it, and it looks like he bent the **** out of it, now it is rubbing on the undercarriage. A couple months ago i tried putting a bead of silicone around the whole sheild, that took care of most of the rattle, but now its back worse than before. Im gonna go see what I can do with my hammer, maybe bending it back a little would work.

thanks, nick
